The Air Quality and Green House Gases Assessments evaluated the Project’s potential air quality impacts through emissions from construction activities and when the project is operational. To do this, the Assessments compared existing local air quality, meteorological conditions and greenhouse gas emissions and estimated how local conditions would be impacted by the Project’s predicted emissions.

The Air Quality Assessment was based on the NSW EPA’s Approved Methods for Modelling. The Greenhouse Gases Assessment was developed inline with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol — the internationally recognised accounting framework for measuring and reporting greenhouse gas emissions.

The Noise and Vibration Impact Assessment evaluated potential noise and vibration effects on the environment and surrounding communities caused by construction activities and noise and vibrations from pumps or generators when the Project is in operations.

A selection of representative residential, commercial, industrial, and recreational properties in the Project area was used as assessment locations for these studies

What we heard
Item
Title
Construction Noise and Daily Disruption
Short description
We want to understand noise during construction— especially if blasting, tunnelling or heavy machinery are used close to homes or the lake. People want reassurance that noise will be monitored and managed so that they can continue to enjoy their homes and outdoor spaces.
Title
Extended Hours and Night Works
Short description
Some residents asked whether construction would occur at night or on weekends, expressing concern about early starts and the impact on sleep, shift workers, and local tourism accommodation. They want clear information about working hours and respite periods.
Title
Dust and Air Quality
Short description
Feedback highlighted that dust generated from earthworks, spoil movement and unsealed roads could affect air quality, particularly during dry or windy periods. Residents want to understand how dust suppression and road cleaning will be managed.
Title
Blasting, Vibration and Community Notification
Short description
Many sought to understand how blasting is regulated, what safety standards apply, and how the community will be notified in advance of planned blasts. People want clear, timely communication about when blasting will occur and how its impacts will be monitored and reported.
Title
Spoil Management and Visual Amenity
Short description
Community members sought clarity about how spoil will be handled, stored or reused locally. There is concern about dust plumes, truck movements and visual changes to the landscape if large spoil mounds or stockpiles remain visible for long periods.
Title
Construction Workforce and Local Amenity
Short description
Some feedback related to the potential impacts of a large construction workforce — including temporary accommodation, increased activity, and noise near worker compounds. People want to understand where workforce facilities will be located and how behaviour, noise and local access will be managed to minimise disruption.
