You may have heard this talked about on local radio – here is what is happening.
We’re pleased to share that the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) for the Lake Lyell Pumped Hydro Project has been updated, with the latest amendment including an update of the projects mega-watt (MW) capacity and further requirements relating to worker accommodation.
The SEARs outline the key matters that must be addressed in the project’s Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) — covering environmental, social, infrastructure, and traffic considerations. Updating the SEARs ensures the scope is right for the assessment of the project which now includes increased MW capacity and the alternative workers accommodation site as part of the broader EIS we have been working on since 2023.
What is happening with workers accommodation?
We have two workers accommodation sites – a preferred lakeside off Magpie Hollow and an alternative in town near Silcock Street.
Since April we have been out and about engaging on the alternative workers accommodation site and undertaking technical and environmental studies.
This alternative worker accommodation site is now included in the SEARs.
What’s behind the increase in MW?
We worked hard to use the same project footprint to generate as much energy as we can – that is now 385MW for 8 hours with a capability of up to 430MW.
The equipment we will use has an engineering rating of 440MW and this is now reflected in the SEARs.
The SEARs ensure a transparent and informed planning process.
We’ll continue to keep the community informed as the EIS progresses and consultation opportunities become available.
